A fresh coat of paint on doors leading into Winter Water Park bathrooms and offices were being applied Monday as staff prepares for the opening on Friday.

Owensville’s Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) officially opens Winter Water Park for the 2020 summer season on Friday, June 5, at noon under modified operations, according to the city’s director of park operations, Angela Lairmore.

A complete listing of the modified operations will be available to view as a .pdf on The Republican’s website gasconadecountyrepublican.com. Modified operations will be continuously reviewed during season and may be amended when necessary by the city at any time, Lairmore told the city’s Board of Aldermen on Monday.

Playground equipment and restrooms elsewhere across the city’s system remain off limits.

“We’re continuing with restrictions due to the governor’s Phase I extension,” Lairmore told aldermen. “We’re really moving forward and will have everyone ready for Friday (at the pool).”

The water temperature was 77 degrees on Sunday and warm weather was expected the remainder of the week as the facility celebrates the sixth year of operation.

Winter Water Park, located at 705 Parker Drive, is open seven days a week from 12 noon to 6 p.m. through Sunday, Aug. 23.

There will be reduced hours on  Saturdays and Sundays only once Gasconade County R-2 School District resumes classes. The pool, dedicated in 2014, will operate weekend through Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 7).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on occupancy based on social distancing guidelines, the pool will be operated on a restricted attendance policy, limiting the number of swimmers at one time.

There, the pool is open to Gasconade County and Gasconade County R-2 School District residents only at this time. Costs are $5 for individuals 3 and up. Children 2 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

There is a “Quick Dip” admission discounted fee for those arriving two hours before closing time ($2.50).

For those who plan on swimming a lot this summer, Value Cards are available for $60 for 20 visits. Value Cards are not assigned to one specific person and can be used by multiple individuals. The facility will not be offering season passes this summer. Snacks and beverages will be available in the Snack Shack.

Winter Water Park will have many special activities throughout the summer season.

An Adult River Walk will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11a.m. to 12 p.m. beginning June 8.

“Adult River Walk encourages mature individuals to take advantage of the time to exercise, relax and have fun in the lazy river, without all the hustle and bustle of the normal pool hours,” according to Lairmore.

The fee is $1 per person.

The lazy river will be the only area open during this time.

Tot Splash will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11a.m. to 12 p.m. beginning June 9.

“Tot Time is a special time to give parents, grandparents or babysitters the opportunity to spend special time with their little ones, up to six years old, without all the hustle and bustle of the normal pool hours,” said Lairmore.

The fee is $2 per person with a maximum of three children per adult. The zero-depth castle area will be the only area open during this time.
