Fans of wrestling in Owensville had plenty of action to wet their appetite over the weekend.

Saturday marked the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2, Sectional 1 Wrestling Tournament at Ste. Genevieve High School.

Seven Owensville High School wrestlers were competing for a spot in their respective weight classes at the 91st MSHSAA Wrestling Championships scheduled to be held at the Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence from Tuesday, March 9 until Saturday, March 13.

Class 2 wrestling in Independence will take place on March 11.

Among the seven OHS wrestlers that competed Saturday in Ste. Genevieve, three of them will get to spend the first day of their spring break at state wrestling.

Taking third place, Michael (106) and Dakota (195) Martin became the first set of brothers to qualify for state in the same year since Jack and Alex Saebens accomplished the feat nearly a decade ago.

Joining the Martin brothers will be Dutchmen junior Chris Stockton at 182 pounds.

On Sunday, OHS played host to the Missouri USA District 7 Wrestling Tournament.

Out of 14 wrestlers from Owensville, 11 advanced to the Missouri USA Region D Tournament this weekend in Cape Girardeau following top-six finishes.

Those wrestlers include Karson Griffith (6th), Jase Schulte (4th), Bo Buddemeyer (1st), Gauge Workman (5th), Steven Buddemeyer (3rd), Kurt Brenner (1st), Brendan Kramme (2nd), Conner Roach (1st), Timothy Winterbauer (3rd), Garrett Hunter (4th) and Landon Kramme (1st).

Ryder Hane, Mason Turner and Micah Duncan also competed but finished outside the top six.

More photos from districts at OHS will be coming issues of The Republican.
