There was nothing normal about the fall term at Owensville High School, conducted under pandemic conditions, with activities greatly altered.

For drama department students, their chance to shine came on the evening of Dec. 5 with the staging of three one-act plays, created the afternoon and evening before, and rehearsed throughout the day Saturday while technical elements were being blocked out.

This was the first time for the 24-Hour Playwriting Festival.

Adrienne Brammeier’s students gathered after school Dec. 4.

“We determined who would be the playwrights, directors, and actors in each show,” Brammeier shared with us.

Technical support duties were assigned.

By 9 a.m. Saturday, “the playwrights had written their one acts and the entire day was full of rehearsals and by 7 pm that evening we had three separate one acts that were all memorized, had costumes, props, lighting, etc.,” Brammeier said.

Brammeier noted during rehearsals that this festival gave students a chance to shine by creating and staging their own shows.
