Jean S. Koenig, 96, of Owensville, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Gasconade Manor in Owensville.

She was born July 11, 1927, to George Thomas and Ruth Lillian (Simpson) Stewart in Phoenix, Ariz.

Jean was a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in health and physical education. She was also a collegiate athlete in field hockey and golf.

Jean was united in marriage to Herman Thomas Koenig, May 10, 1952, in Tucson, Ariz. Herman Thomas and Jean purchased a farm in Bem, in 1964. Jean loved gardening and helping farm. Every Sunday after church Jean would have a hot meal for family and have an open door for anyone to come and break bread with them.

Mrs. Koenig was a public-school teacher for 40 years and after retirement continued her love for helping others by teaching adult literacy. Her faith in God was an extremely important part of Jean’s life. She was a lifelong Baptist and actively involved with music, Sunday school and many other church ministries.

She was preceded in death by parents George and Ruth; husband, Herman Thomas; and siblings, Thomas Stewart and Ruth Irene Hendricks.

Jean Koenig is survived by daughter, Margaret Frahm and husband Dennis of Owensville; son, Robert Koenig and wife Molly of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Thomas Koenig, Collin Frahm and wife Jessica, Katherine Hingtgen and husband Drew, Susan Koenig and Justin Zymbaluk, Amanda Body and husband Kenneth; and great-grandchildren, Mark Body, Magnus and Malcolm Hingtgen.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Owensville with Rev. Kevin Sullivan officiating.  Her cremains will be interred in Belle Liberty Cemetery.
