Owensville Middle School harriers sweep team titles at New Haven

NEW HAVEN — From start to finish Saturday morning at New Haven city park, it was a great day to be in orange and black for cross country runners from Owensville Middle School (OMS) and Owensville High School (OHS).

Racing action began with both middle school races starting with the girls and then the boys.

Behind Kennedy Reams’ third-place time of 14:55.89, Tyler Ahring’s OMS Dutchgirls topped eight other scoring teams in the middle school girls division at New Haven with 76 points.

They finished ahead of New Bloomfield (84), Union (85), Pacific (90), Montgomery County (93), Vienna (138), Linn (139), Hermann (172) and Winfield (231).

Following Reams on the course for OMS’ Dutchgirls were Bella Daniels (11th, 15:58.13), Jolie Vandegriffe (15th, 16:07.61) Adreahna Leach (20th, 16:47.12), Alexandra Leach (37th, 18:09.14), Aisha Santos (19:37.57) and Sophia Beard (70th, 24:58.36).

Seeing OMS’ first five Dutchmen in the top 15, Owensville also claimed the team title in the middle school boys division with 48 points finishing ahead of Vienna (75), New Bloomfield (123), Bourbon (128), Fatima (131), Hermann (141), Pacific (174), Union (177), Winfield (203), Montgomery County (217) and New Haven (271).

Max Altemeyer led the Dutchmen trio of medalists with a fourth-place time of 13:35.40 followed by Robbie Rodriguez (6th, 13:36.80) and Trevin Nolting (9th, 13:52.19).

Other Dutchmen helping OMS secure a team title were Brock Rutledge (14th, 14:23.70), Trace Ridder (15th, 14:23.82), Ricky Ringeisen (17th, 14:31.71), Roman Crowe (27th, 14:58.63), Bentley Crews (31st, 15:28.54), Liam Kramme (33rd, 15:29.75), Zeke Johnson (35th, 15:35.66), Anthony Grube (37th, 15:37.99), Braden Kemp (44th, 16:15.30), Seth Mitcham (46th, 16:23.84), Jace Duerr (47th, 16:25.42), Garrett Ringeisen (50th, 16:36.77), Ayden Gutermuth (51st, 16:38.44), Brady Rutledge (59th, 17:07.68), Matthew Allen (69th, 17:59.52), Brahm Winter (77th, 18:46.68), Daven Dietrich (84th, 20:05.68), Logan Hackstedt (89th, 21:00.94), Leland Hengstenberg (90th, 21:03.93), Alexander Pratt (96th, 23:42.14) and Hayden Graham (99th, 24:16.93).

In the JV girls race, Owensville had a trio of JV Dutchgirls competing which included Violet Lavalle (24th, 29:30.64), Morgen Schmidt (37th, 31:56.54) and Haley Boland (47th, 36:48.56).

Two JV Dutchmen cracked the top 15 earning themselves medals which included Hunter Anderson (8th, 22:01.20) and Dylan Dietrich (14th, 23:05.61).

“Dylan (Dietrich) put together a great race,” OHS head cross county coach Matt Candrl said.

Fellow JV Dutchmen harriers helping them to a fifth-place team finish with 111 points included Nick Hinson (22nd, 23:43.12), Christian Steele (42nd, 25:12.61), Ethan Blankenship (58th, 27:30.95) and Dominick Eikermann (60th, 28:06.75).

Owensville finished behind St. Francis Borgia (35), Hermann (70), St. Dominic (84) and Union (95) in the JV boys team standings.

Four of the five Dutchgirls in the varsity race made their debuts combining to place sixth as a team with 114 points behind Pacific (44), St. Dominic (48), Hermann (76), New Bloomfield (92) and Linn (101).

Leading the Dutchgirls was junior Ella Davidson with a 24th-place time of 26:57.62.

She was followed in orange and black by Abbey Quilacio (25th, 26:58.35), Leah Hays (29th, 27:15.33), Leola Hamann (43rd, 29:47.40) and Meredith Reed (46th, 31:21.76).

“Leah (Hays) ran a really good race this weekend taking on the challenge of a tougher course,” Candrl said. “She looked really good throughout the race and ran fasted than she did in Memphis.”

Capping the day with the varsity boys race, three Dutchmen led by Zach Holtmeyer’s third-place time of 17:19.24 posted top-15 times good for medals helping OHS place second as a team with 69 points behind Hermann’s first-place total of 38 points.

Joining Holtmeyer in the medals for Owensville were Drake Dietrich (11th, 19:22.76) and Cristopher Reyes (14th, 19:41.87).

“Drake ran nearly on top of his PR (personal record) at Memphis,” Candrl said. “He just put together a great race strategy helping him get into the medals.”

Also competing for the varsity Dutchmen in New Haven were Grayson Lairmore (29th, 20:43.98), Ty Price (39th, 21:33.37) and Bryce Kramme (48th, 22:42.22).

Running in Memphis, Tenn., over Labor Day weekend, Holtmeyer posted a 15th-place time of 16:25.96 followed by teammates Reyes (121st, 18:25.25), Drake Dietrich (18:33.15), Lairmore (180th, 19:44.11) and Kramme (231st, 21:21.80).

Holtmeyer’s time was the third-fastest in OHS history for a 5k race.

“He competed really well and pushed himself into the top 15 early in the race and stayed there the whole way,” Candrl said.

Varsity Dutchgirls running in Memphis included Hannah Gehlert (59th, 20:53.10), Davidson (201st, 25:37.12), Quilacio (204th, 25:39.94), Hamann (222nd, 26:22.26), Hays (232nd, 28:00.51), Schmidt (244th, 30:21.84) and Reed (249th, 30:39.02).

OMS’ harriers will return to action Saturday at the Linn Invitational while their OHS counterparts will get a preview of the state course during the Father Tolton Invitational on the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia.

Racing at both venues will start at 9 a.m.
