Protecting the sanctity of life

After a lengthy debate unfolded into the early hours of April 10, the Senate passed House Bill 2634 to prohibit state funding for abortion facilities and their affiliates in Missouri, such as Planned Parenthood.

This was an enormous legislative victory for the pro-life movement.

House Bill 2638 will further protect the unborn and sanctity of life by permanently and statutorily prohibiting state funds from being funneled to these clinics and their affiliates. The amended version has been sent back to the House of Representatives for final passage in route to the governor’s desk.

On April 11, I presented Senate Bill 993 to the Senate Fiscal Oversight Committee.

This legislation proposes a structured reduction of the earnings tax imposed on workers and businesses in St. Louis and Kansas City. These taxes impact every worker and business within St. Louis from their very first dollar earned or payroll expense incurred.

I believe such a system discourages the establishment and growth of businesses within St. Louis and deters families from making the city their home. The proposal I bring forward seeks to address these challenges directly and responsibly. This structured reduction ensures a careful balance, fostering economic growth while maintaining essential city services.

This bill represents a measured, calculated approach to revitalization. By adjusting the tax burden, we aim to reverse the economic downturn and repopulate the downtown area, resulting in a stronger, safer and more prosperous community.

Over the last several decades, we’ve seen the consequences unfold, with significant economic and social impacts.

It’s time for Missouri to invest in the future of St. Louis, ensuring it can once again be a powerhouse driving our state’s economy forward.

Education Updates

My proposal to permit home school children to participate in their local school district’s sports programs and extra-curricular activities is on the Senate perfection calendar. All students deserve access to the enrichment and other life skills these taxpayer-funded activities provide.

I anticipate a debate on the floor in the coming weeks and look forward to advancing this bill to the House.
