Soccer Dutchgirls work double overtime for win at Eugene

For the first time in nearly two years, an Owensville High School girls soccer match needed more than 80 minutes to decide a winner.

Last Tuesday night in their first meeting against Eugene’s Lady Eagles, Zach Bollmann’s Dutchgirls entered overtime tied at 1-1.

After no scoring in the first 10-minute overtime, Lily Reed found the back of the net in the second 10-minute overtime giving the Dutchgirls a 2-1 double-overtime victory.

This marked the first overtime win for Owensville since April 12, 2017 when they defeated Newburg on the road in overtime 3-2.

Other overtime wins in the history of Dutchgirl soccer came back in 2015 on March 30 when they beat Dixon 2-1 and nearly a month later on April 23 when they defeated St. James 3-2 in overtime.

Their overtime contest last week was also the first since a May 11, 2021 1-0 overtime loss at Dutchmen Field against Laquey’s Lady Hornets.

Owensville’s other two overtime losses in program history came back on April 4, 2016 during a 1-0 double-overtime loss against Newburg and on May 7, 2018 in a 4-3 overtime loss at St. James.

Starting with St. James facing Sullivan last night (Tuesday), Dutchmen Field will host the Owensville Dutchgirl Soccer Tournament in a three team round-robin format between the host Dutchgirls, Sullivan Lady Eagles and St. James Lady Tigers.

Owensville will face St. James tonight (Wednesday) at 5 p.m., in what will also be senior night for the Dutchgirls.

Tournament action will conclude tomorrow (Thursday) with Sullivan taking on Owensville at 5 p.m.
