Katsov, Arthur claim bronze medals during 2023 World Cup series

Whatever it took to get on the medal stand.

That was the mentality for the Mid-America Acro and Tumbling Team (MAATT) duo of Ariana Katsov and Mo Arthur.

Earning an All-Around bronze medal back in March during World Cup Series for Acrobatic Gymnastics competition in Maia, Portugal, the area duo looked to add to their medal haul during the second event of the series in April held in Puurs, Belgium.

Unable to find the medal stand in Belgium, the pair had one last shot at redemption during the weekend of June 9-11 in Rzeszow, Poland.

Able to scratch their way into the finals, Katsov and Arthur performed their routine that helped them earn their second bronze medal in the span of three months.

Day one in Poland saw the MAATT pair struggle on their balance routine putting them in eighth place.

On day two, they had to find a way to pick up two spots in order to move into the top six and the finals.

After a solid dynamic routine placed third overall, that bumped them up two positions into sixth overall punching their ticket into the six-team Women’s Pair finals.

“Skilled execution along with moving artistry landed them on the podium with a bronze medal,” MAATT Coach Mindi Katsov said. “Ariana and Mo overcame so much adversity and I could not be more proud of them for not only representing Missouri but the United States of America (USA) so well.

In a tightly contest competition, four-tenths of a point separated first from third place.

Arthur and Katsov earned all-around bronze (27.480) behind Israel’s Rony Cohen and Maya Velner in first (27.920) and Portugal’s Monica Lima and Maria Marvao in second (27.500).

“It felt amazing to be able to stand on the medal stand representing not only Missouri but the United States of America,” Arthur said.

Katsov and Arthur were not the only American acrobatic gymnasts to find the medal stand in Poland.

Reigning U.S. and World Champions Angel Felix and Braiden McDougall made history as the first American men’s pair to win an Acrobatic World Cup Series title following the 2023 Rzeszow World Cup.

“Being able to see a team from our country win a World Cup series title was neat and something I’ll never forget,” Katsov said.

After flying across the Atlantic Ocean throughout the past three months, Arthur, Katsov and the rest of the USA Women’s National Team will begin action today (Wednesday) at the USA Gymnastics Championships inside the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.

Katsov and Arthur will each be looking to defend their all-around title from last year’s championships.

Events in the Sooner State will run through Saturday at the USA Gymnastics Championships.
