OHS Track sweeps team titles at Cuba

Leave Cuba with plenty of medals and team hardware.

That was the goal last Tuesday night for Matt Candrl’s Owensville High School (OHS) track teams during the annual Cuba Relays at Cuba High School.

Scoring team points in all but two events, Owensville’s Dutchgirls topped seven other teams with 199 points.

Emma Daniels sprinted her way to gold with a first-place time of 13.24 in the girls 100-meter dash.

Also scoring team points for the Dutchgirls in the event were McKenzy Echols (4th, 14.25), Emma-Lee Wehmeyer (5th, 14.27) and Ali Daniels (8th, 14.91).

Also winning the 200m dash in 28.29, Emma Daniels led three Dutchgirls in the top eight including Echols (3rd, 30.38) and Ali Daniels (8th, 32.69).

Ilene Limberg (2nd, 1:10.04) and Hannah Gehlert (3rd, 1:12.38) picked up a quick 14 points for Owensville in the girls 400m dash.

Brynn Wright won the girls 800m run in a time of 2:45.20 while Kelby Herbel placed ninth in 3:49.75.

Taking the top three spots for Owensville in the girls 3200m run were Limberg (12:11.96), Gehlert (13:14.37) and Abbie Gibson (13:17.02).

Wehmeyer won the girls 100m hurdles in 18.40 while Cameron Ryerson (3rd, 20.70) and Elaina Lebish (7th, 22.21) also scored team points for the Dutchgirls.

Makenzi Carpenter led a trio of Dutchgirls in the girls 300m hurdles with a second-place time of 1:04.41.

Sprinting their way to victory in the girls 4x100m with a winning time of 55.63 was the Dutchgirl squad of Ali Daniels, Cameron Nowack, Echols and Wehmeyer.

Emma Daniels, Cameron Nowack, Echols and Carpenter won the girls 4x200m relay in a time of 1:57.98.

Limberg, Gehlert, Gibson and Wright also teamed up for Owensville to win the girls 4x800m relay in a time of 10:59.38.

Lainey Moss (4th, 8.19m) and Rylee Dare (8th, 7.49m) scored team points for the Dutchgirls in the girls shot put.

Brianna Beckerman also posted an 11th-place throw of 6.82m in the shot put.

Dare (6th, 21.97m) and Kiana Wehmeyer (7th, 20.61m) picked up Dutchgirl team points in the girls discus.

Danika Hinson threw her way to fourth place in the girls javelin with a toss of 25.32m.

Ruvia Nowack placed second in the girls pole vault with a clearing height of 2.25m.

Cameron Nowack (1st, 4.17m) and Ryerson (4th, 3.66m) scored team points for Owensville in the girls long jump.

Taking four of the top seven spots in the girls triple jump were Ali Daniels (1st, 9.59m), Cameron Nowack (2nd, 8.72m), Ryerson (6th, 7.89m) and Ruvia Nowack (7th, 7.09m).

Earning team points in all but one event, Candrl’s Dutchmen also topped the team standings with 156 points.

Now a sprinting Dutchmen, Johannes Berg led Owensville in the boys 100m dash with a fourth-place time of 12.45.

Connor Wellman also picked up team points for the Dutchmen placing seventh in 12.53.

Berg (3rd, 25.43) also led five Dutchmen in the top 12 of the 200m dash.

Finishing behind Berg were Chase Crosby (4th, 26.30), Landen Losch (5th, 27.14), Liam Rasmussen (10th, 28.40) and Liam Lawrence (12th, 29.02).

Freshman Zach Holtmeyer led three Dutchmen in the top 10 of the boys 400m dash with a second-place time of 58.34.

Felix Guerrero (3rd, 58.45) and Drake Dietrich (10th, 1:04.14) also finished inside the top 10 for OHS.

Kyle Bollman picked up team points in the boys 800m run with a fifth-place time of 2:32.04.

Bollman (5th, 5:33.31) and Ty Price (7th, 5:54.70) earned team points for OHS in the boys 1600m run.

Holtmeyer (2nd, 10:58.65), Guerrero (3rd, 10:58.79), Drake Dietrich (6th, 12:06.20), Christopher Reyes (7th, 12:32.09) and Tristan Strothkamp (8th, 12:48.12) all posted top-eight finishes for the Dutchmen in the boys 3200m run.

Losch took third in the boys 110m hurdles in 18.71 while Ethan Harris was fifth in a time of 19.19. Jordan Bialczyk just missed the top eight with a ninth-place time of 20.46.

Harris then went on to win the boys 300m hurdles in 45.90 while Losch was sixth in 51.48.

Teaming up to win the boys 4x100m relay in 48.22 was the OHS quartet of Cody Lenauer, Ricky Marquez, Wellman and Berg.

Also winning the boys 4x200m relay for OHS in 1:43.34 was the team of Berg, Lenauer, Wellman and Bialczyk.

Ending the meet with a winning time of 3:56.33 in the boys 4x400m relay was the Dutchmen foursome of Harris, Crosby, Lenauer and Wellman.

Denied a relay sweep by Vienna in the boys 4x800m relay, Owensville’s team of Ty Price, Guerrero, Holtmeyer and Bollman placed second in 9:28.08.

Eli Graham won the boys discus with a throw of 42.84m.

Also scoring team points in the boys javelin were Eli Graham (7th, 33.12m) and Cael Walker (8th, 29.45m).

Trenton Million (2nd, 3.50m) led five Dutchmen in the top seven of the boys pole vault.

Finishing behind Million were Marquez (3rd, 3.20m), Logan Valley (5th, 2.60m), Werner Lein (7th, 2.45) and Steven Buddemeyer (7th, 2.45m).
