Franklin County officials reported 219 new cases of COVID-19 this week plus another 60 probable cases. These numbers show a drop from last week’s new case total of 249, but an increase in probable cases which was listed as 56.

There was only one new case listed in the Gerald area, two in Beaufort and none in Leslie.

New positive cases in long-term care facilities began the week at 12, but then more than doubled to 24 by week’s end. Franklin County Presiding Commissioner Tim Brinker said that he also noted the rise. “All staff and patients in long-term care facilities had received their first dose of the vaccine by Jan. 28,” he reported. All have been scheduled to receive their second dose at the appropriate time, he noted.

Hospitalizations held steady through the week at 12. There were no new deaths reported by the county in the last seven days.
