Owensville High School (OHS) officials are putting together plans for an alumni night on Friday, Aug. 28 to recognize OHS Dutchmen and Dutchgirl student-athletes that have participated in either football, softball, band, cross country and football cheerleading.

Also that night is the second year for the annual Tackle the Talk event encouraging conversations about mental health and to help break the stigma surrounding these important topics.

Tackle the Talk t-shirt orders will be taken by going to https://www.queenbcustomgraphics.com/ohs-tackle.

In order to be able to wear them for free admission for both the softball and football games that night, orders need to be placed by Thursday, Aug. 20.

Former Owensville Dutchgirl softball players will be the first to be recognized before the first pitch at 4 p.m., in a Highway 28 diamond showdown against Dixon’s Lady Bulldogs with varsity action kicking off the Friday twin bill.

While softball is going on, alumni can walk the parking lot and participate in tailgating activities prior to kickoff of the season and home opening football game between Randy Crowe’s Owensville Dutchmen and the visiting Eldon Mustangs.

In addition to all alumni football players and cross country runners in attendance, members of the 2006 Owensville Dutchmen football team will be recognized to observe the 20th anniversary of that season that culminated in a 56-21 loss to Harrisonville’s Wildcats inside the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

One state record from that championship game still stand entering the 2026-27 school year.

Matt Angell got the Dutchmen on the board back in 2006 with a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

That record stands to this date while his record for return yardage in a state championship game was broken last fall in the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 4 Show-Me Bowl in St. Joseph by Hannibal’s Darrion Washington who racked up 197 kickoff return yards against Kearney.

Angell previously held the record of 163 kickoff return yards against Harrisonville before Washington broke it for the Pirates.

Washington nearly broke both records as he also had a 93-yard kickoff return for the touchdown last fall against Kearney’s Bulldogs.

Before halftime, any OHS band alumni that are in attendance will be recognized in addition to any alumni OHS football cheerleaders being recognized after the marching band performs their halftime show.
