Anna Elizabeth Gawer, 82, Owensville passed away Aug, 27, 2021, at Stone Bridge Senior Living in Owensville due to complications following a stroke.

She was born Nov. 9, 1938, to Phillip Harvey and Basil Agnes (LaPlant) Jackson in East Prairie.

She was united in marriage to Glenn Gawer Sept. 9, 1990.

Anna spent her childhood, along with her four siblings, in a home for orphan children in Ferguson as their parents passed when they were all very young and no one was able to raise five orphans as a unit. The orphanage was sponsored by the Christian Church and Anna remained a member of that church until her death. She embraced the religious training, especially as regards to Romans 12:6-8 in that throughout her life she, often with considerable sacrifice, was always trying to serve others well. This ranged from “mothering” her four younger siblings and raising her two nephews to the more mundane such as, on a weekly basis, she spent years taking a handicapped individual grocery shopping.

After graduation from Ferguson High School, Anna held a number of positions in the healthcare industry and spent her last 37 years with the Hermann Area District Hospital in Hermann. She was an exceptional conversationalist and traveler who enjoyed seeing and learning about different areas, things and people; especially people and even strangers she encountered in her frequent travels, much of which was in the United States, though she also had several trips to Europe, Mexico and China. She will be sorely missed by her many friends, travel companions and relatives.

She was preceded in death by parents Phillip and Basil; sister Phyllis Longaria; brothers Ralph and Murrell Aydelott; as well as husbands Roy Cox, Ervin Lalk and Donald Hafley.

Anna is survived by husband Glenn of Owensville; sons Christopher Jackson of St. Louis and Scott Jackson of Rolla; sister Mary Louise Wood of Bethel; brothers Carl Jackson of Chesterfield and Ronald Jackson of Hilton Head, S.C.; and many family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 2 from 4-8 p.m. at Gottenstroeter Chapel, Owensville. Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. at the Chapel with Pastor Shane Jarvis officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Woollam.
