Sunday night underneath the pavilion behind the grandstand at Owensville’s Memorial Park during the annual fireman’s community picnic, trophies and spots at the Missouri State Fair Pedal Tractor Pull were up for grabs.
Ranging in age from four to 12, pullers just had to finishing among the top three overall to earn a trophy and amongst the top three boys and girls to clinch a spot in the annual Missouri State Pedal Pull that will be held during the last day of the 2026 Missouri State Fair on Sunday, Aug. 23 in Sedalia.
Among four-year-olds, three boys claimed the top three overall spots which included Gus Grellner (first), Daniel Rohlfing (second) and Kevin Conrad (third).
Claiming the top-three spots for the girls and qualifying for state were Hattie Raaf, Jocelyn Szczuka and Ellie Buescher.
Three boys also took the overall top three spots among five-year-olds Sunday night which included Tucker Grellner (first), Calihan Hagedorn (second) and Danny Jahnsen (third).
Lainey Raithel was the lone girl competing in the five-year-old division automatically qualifying her for state.
Placing in the top three among six-year-olds were Elias Hempelmann (first), Cecelia Jahnsen (second) and Matthew Rohlfing (third).
Cooper Reprogle also qualified for the state pull placing third among the multiple six-year-old boys competing Sunday night.
Girls took two of the top three spots among seven-year-olds which included Amber Smith (first), Addie Hagedorn (second) and Anthony Szczuka (third).
Owen Raithel and Knox Okenfuss also placed second and third among seven-year-old boys to clinch their spots in Sedalia.
Two boys were among the overall top three in the eight-year-old division which included Cash Reprogle (first), Eleanor Szczuka (second) and Kade Koelling (third).
Havannah Hulsey and Meleah Howard qualified for state placing second and third among eight-year-old girls while Kamden Barlow was third among eight-year-old boys.
Nine-year-old action saw three boys achieve full pulls on their first attempt forcing a pull-off with more weight.
After the pull off, Drake Schlottach (first), Lucas Hart (second) and Jackson Niederer (third) made up the overall top three.
Comprising the top-three girls among nine-year-olds were Mabel Hempelmann, Sadie Raithel and Charlotte Okenfuss.
A total of six 10-year-olds competed Sunday in Owensville.
Making up the overall top three were Kolton Koelling (first), Aubree Jarvis (second) and Levi Hempelmann (third).
Adding to his first-place finish at the Franklin County Fair in Union among 10-year-old boys back on June 11, Lane Johnson also placed among 10-year-old boys at Owensville.
With only two pullers in the 11-year-old division, they earned trophies and spots in Sedalia.
Westyn Arvin placed first followed in second by Chandler Howard.
It was a battle between Paisley Hempelmann and Paizli Echols in the 12-year-old division with Echols posting a full pull and Hempelmann coming in second place with a distance of 40 feet even.
Three more sanctioned pulls in the area will be put on throughout the month of July by the Segelhorst family starting on Friday, July 10 at the New Haven Community Youth Fair.
The other two pulls will be held on Sunday, July 19 during the Gasconade County Threshers Association annual show and on Friday, July 31 during the 2026 Gasconade County Fair.
