Avonell Marie Forbes, 88, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023, in her home in Englewood, N.J.
She was born Oct. 19, 1935, to Whitfield and Jessie (Boston) Scheidegger in Gerald.
She was united in marriage to Dr. Max Forbes, Sept. 28, 1963, in St. Louis.
Avonell was a devoted, loving, and attentive wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She appreciated living and raising her family close to New York City while remaining loyal to her Boston and Scheidegger family roots in Gerald. In addition to spending time with friends and family, Avonell enjoyed dancing, walking on the beach, art, theatre, reading, and music of all kinds from classical to jazz to country western. Her husband, Max Forbes, was her best friend and confidante for over 60 years.
Avonell was a member of the Junior League of Bergen County, the Woman’s Club of Englewood, and of the Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by parents, Whitfield and Jessie; and sister, Imogene Bade.
She is survived by husband, Max; children, Brian Forbes, Julie Forbes, Diane Forbes and Pamela Freiborg; and brother, Philip Scheidegger.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 20, at Boeuff Presbyterian Church in Gerald with Rev. Ronnie Koppelmann officiating. Burial was in Boeuff Presbyterian Cemetery in Gerald.
