Playing a pair of games at Dick Ochsner Ball Park last week, Wayland McKague’s Hermann Bearcat baseball team took full advantage of the home cooking.
Hosting New Haven’s Shamrocks last Monday night in their final Four Rivers Conference (FRC) contest of the season, Hermann jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings before putting up six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete their 10-0 mercy rule victory over the Shamrocks in six innings.
Pitching around a pair of walks over the first two innings, Bearcat starting pitcher Nolan Ogroski picked up some run support from the Hermann offense in the bottom of the second inning.
Kyle Koch led the frame off with a single before scoring on a RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Cole Brinker to break the scoreless tie in Highway 100 baseball action last Monday.
Ogroski helped his own cause with a single before being relieved on the base paths by courtesy runner Trent Chasteen.
After a Corbin Sadler walk and Brinker’s aforementioned RBI sacrifice fly, Braden Schutt delivered a two-RBI single scoring Chasteen and Sadler bumping Hermann’s lead to 3-0.
Bearcat leadoff hitter Bracksten Carr capped the four-run bottom of the second inning reaching on a fielder’s choice allowing Schutt to score.
Allowing just two hits the rest of the game, Ogroski turned it back over to the Bearcat offense in the bottom of the sixth inning after scoreless frames in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Sadler and Carr both singled and scored while four other Bearcats drew walks before making their way to home plate during Hermann’s six-run bottom of the sixth inning.
Earning bases on balls and scoring for the Bearcats in the bottom of the sixth inning were Carter Humphrey, Brady Traub, Koch and Schutt.
Guy Hoffman ended the game for Hermann with a two-RBI single scoring Humphrey and Koch.
Picking up the complete-game victory for Hermann, Ogroski threw six innings of shutout baseball allowing two hits and four walks to go with four strikeouts.
Bearcats vs. South Callaway
Welcoming South Callaway’s Bulldogs to Dick Ochsner Ball Park, Hermann’s Bearcats looked to make it back-to-back home wins since they put together four victories in a row during the spring of 2024.
Down 2-0 entering a do-or-die bottom of the seventh inning, Hermann turned two hits, two errors and a walk into three runs and a walk-off 3-2 victory.
Finally breaking through in the bottom of the seventh inning, Hermann’s trek down the comeback trail started with Schutt drawing a walk before eventually scoring when Carter Humphrey reached on an error.
Before Humphrey’s single, Kruz Eldringhoff extended the game with a two-out single of his own.
Down to their last strike, Koch delivered a walk-off two-RBI single to right field scoring Eldringhoff and Humphrey igniting a celebration of Hermann’s second win of the week.
Earning the complete-game win, Carr pitched all seven innings allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits to go with a walk and two strikeouts.
Able to limit the Bulldogs to one run in the fourth and sixth innings, Hermann will look to carry the momentum into tonight’s (Wednesday) Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 7 Tournament opening-round game against the Missouri Military Academy (MMA) Colonels with a 4:30 p.m., first pitch at Dick Ochsner Ball Park.
Hermann also faced Wellsville-Middletown’s Tigers Monday for senior night and a complete recap of that game will be in next week’s Republican.
