Opening a stretch of three games in four days last Monday, Wayland McKague’s Hermann Bearcat baseball team took on the Crosspoint Christian Cougars at Pacific High School in Franklin County.

Scoreless through three innings, Hermann put up crooked numbers over the next four innings helping them post their first win of the season by a final score of 10-1.

Hermann got on the board in the top of the fourth inning Bracksten Carr led the frame off with a single before being doubled home Nate Ogroski.

Ogroski later scored on a Brady Traub RBI ground out giving the Bearcats a 2-0 lead at the midway point of the game.

Crosspoint Christian got a run back on a walk and a hit cutting the Hermann lead to 2-1 through four innings.

Hermann got that run back and then some in the top of the fifth inning.

Kyle Koch reached on an error before Cole Brinker helped his own cause with a walk.

Koch later scored on a RBI ground out by Carr before courtesy runner Andrew Calvert  scored on a passed ball during Ogroski’s inning-ending at bat giving Hermann a 4-1 advantage through five innings.

Pitching around a walk and a hit batter in the bottom of the fifth inning, Brinker gave his Bearcat offense a chance to add to their lead in the top of the sixth.

Traub started the frame being hit by a pitch before a Kruz Eldringhoff single led to a Carter Humphrey RBI single that plated Traub.

Eldringhoff went on to score on a wild pitch while Humphrey scored on a dropped third strike bumping the Bearcat lead to 7-1.

Brinker pitched around a pair of singles in the bottom of the sixth inning allowing the Hermann offense to grab some more insurance tallies.

Carr led the inning off reaching on an error before an Ogroski walk led to a Trent Chasteen two-RBI single scoring Carr and Ogroski.

Chasteen scored the final run of the game for Hermann when Eldringhoff reached on Crosspoint Christian’s second error of the inning.

Brinker finished off his 104-pitch complete-game victory allowing a run on three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts for the Bearcats.

Midweek baseball also had Hermann seeing more blue hosting Crocker’s Lions last Wednesday and Russellville’s Indians last Thursday.

Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning against Crocker, the Bearcats scratched across their only run of the game when Humphrey led off the frame being hit by a pitch before later scoring on a Balk cutting the Lion lead to 5-1.

Although the scoring ceased for Hermann, Humphrey also dashed Crocker’s bid for a no-hitter with a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Koch also recorded a one-out single before a double play ended the game.

Scoreless through five innings against Russellville, Hermann allowed six runs over the final two frames before ending up on the wrong side of a 6-0 final score.

Ogroski took the loss pitching six innings allowing six runs on eight hits and four walks to go with three strikeouts.

Recording base hits for the Bearcats against Russellville included Braden Schutt, Koch, Humphrey and Ogroski.

Schutt also drew the lone walk for Hermann.

Following road games at Sullivan Monday and at Wright City last night (Tuesday), Hermann is scheduled to return to the friendly confines of Dick Ochsner Ball Park tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon hosting Van-Far’s Indians with a 4:30 p.m., first pitch before competing in the Elsberry cluster this Saturday.

Baseball action will be weather and field conditions permitting with rain in the forecast for today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday).
