Hitting the road into Franklin County Friday night, Jed Leeper’s Hermann Bearcat football team looked to put their first notch in the win column by spoiling St. Clair’s homecoming.

Trailing 42-0 at halftime, Hermann managed to get on the scoreboard with 1:23 remaining on a five-yard touchdown pass from Miles Eikermann to Tayven Hopkins.

Carter Humphrey then found Kohlt Witthaus on the two-point conversion leaving the Bearcats on the wrong end of a 49-8 final score against St. Clair’s Bulldogs.

Offensively, Eikermann led the Bearcats going 8-16 through the air with 73 yards passing, a touchdown and an interception.

Witthaus led the Bearcats on the ground with 30 yards rushing on 14 carries.

Will Schutt led Hermann receivers with three catches for 34 yards while Sawyer Moore caught two balls for 17 yards receiving.

Defensively, Nathaniel Rucker had an interception while Hopkins recorded a fumble recovery.

Hopkins also led Hermann with eight total tackles followed closely by Witthaus with seven total stops.

Moore added five total tackles to go along with four total stops from Creten Page.

Rucker had three solo tackles to go along with two tackles apiece from Kyle Koch, Corbin Sadler and Humphrey.

Recording one tackle each for the Bearcats were Eli Pilger and Schutt.

Hermann will open the October portion of their season this Friday night at home hosting St. James Tigers in Four Rivers Conference (FRC) football action at Bearcat Memorial Stadium with a 7 p.m., kickoff.
