Three days removed from having their senior night and outright Four Rivers Conference (FRC) title hopes dashed by St. James’ Tigers, Drew Lansford’s Hermann Bearcats looked to end their regular season Friday night with a road win on Highway 100 against New Haven’s Shamrocks.
Tied at 8-8 after one quarter, Hermann outscored the Shamrocks 15-7 in the second quarter helping them to a 23-15 halftime lead.
Edging New Haven 30-26 in the second half, the Bearcats went on to post a 53-41 victory giving them an overall record of 16-10 heading into last night’s (Tuesday) Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 7 Boys Basketball Tournament opening-round game against Missouri Military Academy’s Colonels at South Callaway High School in Mokane.
Doing most of his damage in the second half, Myles Stiers called blackjack leading the Bearcats with 21 points.
Aiden Eikermann just missed joining Stiers in double figures scoring seven of his nine points in the second half.
Tayven Hopkins and Kohlt Witthaus each added six points to go along with five points from Kruz Eldringhoff all in the first half.
Ryker Ash threw in a pair of third-quarter buckets for four points while Zach Fredrick rounded out Hermann’s scoring in varsity action at New Haven with two points on a first-quarter bucket.
During Hermann’s 39-28 victory in junior-varsity action, Sawyer Moore led the JV Bearcats scoring eight of his team-high 10 points in the second half.
Layne Bader also did most of his damage in the second half netting seven of his eight points over the third and fourth quarters.
Corbin Sadler added six points on a pair of made 3-pointers to go along with four points from Roman Martin.
Trevin Hale and Gavin Theissen each chipped in three points while Ashton Rucker hit a second-quarter bucket for two points.
EJ Lindahl and Carter Baynes each threw in one point on fourth-quarter free throws.
Last Tuesday night against St. James’ Tigers, Hermann handled their pressure defense in the first half before going into halftime only trailing 26-24.
Not able to overcome the continued defensive pressure and numerous turnovers, the Bearcats suffered their first loss in FRC action by a final score of 55-41.
Hermann was led by the quartet of Ash, Eldringhoff, Stiers and Witthaus all scoring seven points apiece.
Fredrick hit for all five of his points in the fourth quarter while Eikermann put in a pair of third-quarter buckets to account for his four points.
Lindahl capped Hermann’s scoring in varsity action against St. James with two points.
Outscored 20-3 in the first quarter of JV action against St. James, Hermann’s JV Bearcats could not overcome the early deficit before ending up on the wrong side of a 57-26 final score.
Martin led the JV Bearcats with six points followed by five points apiece from Parker Thurman and Bader.
Kyle Koch and Sadler both threw in three points to go along with two points each from Rucker and Theissen.
