Posting a 44-43 overtime victory at Pacific last Tuesday night, Drew Lansford’s Hermann Bearcats entered courtwarming action Friday night hosting Union’s Wildcats in control of their Four Rivers Conference (FRC) destiny.
Hermann and Union both entered Friday night’s contest undefeated in FRC play at 4-0.
Tied at 10-10 after one quarter and trailing 21-20 at halftime, Hermann was outscored 15-8 in the third quarter before eventually ending up on the short end of a 47-37 final score.
Kohlt Witthaus led the Bearcats and all scorers with a game-high 25 points.
Myles Stiers added six points for Hermann while Ryker Ash hit for four points to go along with two markers from Aiden Eikermann.
Cameron Servais and Blake Siess each led Union’s Wildcats with 15 points.
Trent Anderson’s Hermann JV Bearcats trailed 10-8 after one quarter and 19-11 at halftime before being outscored 25-12 in the second half of their 44-33 loss.
Sawyer Moore led the JV Bearcats scoring six of his eight points in the second half.
Layne Bader was close behind netting all seven of his points in the fourth quarter.
Corbin Sadler also scored all six of his points in the final seven minutes to go along with four points from EJ Lindahl all in the first quarter.
Carter Baynes hit an old-fashioned 3-point play in the second quarter to account for his scoring.
Ashton Rucker and Trevin Hale added two points apiece in addition to one point from Roman Martin on a first-quarter free throw.
Hosting St. James’ Tigers last night (Tuesday) on senior night, Hermann will end their regular season this Friday night on the road at New Haven with a 6 p.m., tip time for JV action.
A win over St. James and a Union loss Friday night against Owensville would give Hermann a share of the FRC title.
Hermann will then open play in the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 7 Boys Basketball Tournament at South Callaway High School in Mokane on Tuesday, Feb. 24 against Missouri Military Academy at 4:30 p.m.
