Bernadine “Bernie” Mantle-Mangels, 93, Linn, formerly of Barnett, passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, at Harbor Place near Linn.

She was born May 20, 1928, to the late Bernard and Agnes (Thoenen) Voss in Linn.

She was a 1946 graduate of Linn High School.

Bernie was united in marriage to Lawrence C. “Bruz” Mantle Sept. 14, 1946, in St. Louis. “Bruz” preceded her in death Sept. 21, 1996. Then on December 8, 2001, She was then united in marriage to Jerry A. Mangels Dec. 8, 2001, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eldon. Jerry preceded her in death Nov. 8, 2016.

Bernie was employed as a waitress and then her and “Bruz” were the owners/operators of Larry’s Tavern in Linn for 23 years.

She was a very devoted Catholic being a member of St. George Catholic Church in Linn, a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eldon, the Linn VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Rocky Mount Lions Club and the Eagles Club in Jefferson City.

Bernie enjoyed crappie fishing, bowling, and going to ball games and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She was known for her cherry cheesecakes, hot mustard and how she never met a stranger. Bernie’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends.

She is was preceded death by parents, Bernard and Agnes; husbands, Lawrence and Jerry; son, Ronald Mantle; brother, Wilbert Voss; and sisters, Mildred Sallin, Helen Owens, Jane Wilson, Esther Paschal, Margaret Ann Mantle and Mary Ruth Pointer.

Bernie is survived by sons, Larry Mantle and wife Sally of Sun City, Ariz., Donnie Mantle of Lake Ozark and friend Darla of Jefferson City and Stanley Mantle and his wife Rhonda of Centertown; daughter-in-law, Teri Mantle of the State of Illinois; grandchildren, Kari and Michelle Abraham, Cheryl Reed, Deanna Mantle-Price, Wesley, Mickey, Derrick and Jason Mantle and Angie Kulman; fourteen great-grandchildren with two on the way; one great-great- grandchild along with one the way; three step-children, Kenny Mangels and wife Gayla of Eldon, Ron Mangels and wife Barb of Lake Ozark and Janet Cotton and husband John of Russellville; step-grandson, Connor Mangels; brothers, Bobby Voss and wife Jean of Jefferson City and Roger Voss and wife Agnes of Linn; sister, Betsy Edwards of Jefferson City; and numerous nieces, nephews and an abundance of friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. (today) Wednesday, Aug. 25, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Interment will be in the St. George Parish Cemetery.

Memorial contributions suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eldon, St. George Catholic Church in Linn or Rocky Mount Lions Club.
