The city of Owensville’s 2024 street project is expected to begin in late May or no later than the end of June, once curb and guttering installation is completed along Benton Avenue.
Capital Paving of Jefferson City was awarded the project in March after submitting the low base bid of $234,286.45.
The base bid included 6,193 square yards of milling and 1,918 tons of asphalt for paving South Spring Avenue from East Jefferson to East Madison, South Spring Avenue from East Lincoln to East Jefferson and East Madison to East Franklin, South Benton from East Lincoln to East Madison, South Benton from East Madison to East Franklin, East Franklin from South Highway 19 to dead end, and East Monroe from South Highway 19 to Spring Avenue.
In addition to the base bid award, City Clerk Peggy Farrell informed The Republican on Tuesday that the city has additionally opted to move forward with bid options A and B.
Option A includes resurfacing South Walnut from East Lincoln to East Jefferson with 513 square yards of milling and 138 tons of asphalt. Capital Paving and Construction bid this option at $21,294.
Option B includes East Madison from South Highway 19 to South Spring Avenue with 1,439 square yards of milling and 416 tons of asphalt. Capital Paving Construction bid this option at $50,508.70.
The final cost of the project will be determined by the state price index. As of April, the price index was down according to the estimates provided.
Jimmy McClure’s MDC outfit is currently installing concrete curbing along Benton.
