Carolyn Traub, 73, of Owensville, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, surrounded by her family.

She was born Dec. 8, 1949, to Clarence and Lucille (Stack) Flowers in St. Louis.

She was united in marriage to Steven Traub. June 2, 1979, at St. James Evangelical Church in Stony Hill.

Carolyn graduated from University City High in 1967. She joined the workforce and found her niche in advertising and design. She began her career at Warden Publishing in 1979 and worked in this industry for various newspapers until she retired in 2003.

She was the “Junk Whisperer” always shopping for old furniture and items to restore, reuse and/or resell. She loved collecting antiques of all kinds and going to auctions, estate sales and flea markets. She also greatly enjoyed spending time and supporting her grandchildren both on and off the field and courts.

She battled cancer for five and a half years. She became a mentor and friend to many that she crossed paths with along her journey. She had a way of bringing comfort to people during their most uncomfortable times. We are very thankful and appreciative of the care that she has received from her team of nurses and doctors at Siteman Cancer Center and on the oncology floor at Barnes Jewish Hospital. We are also grateful for the Seasons Hospice Team in Springfield for providing her and our family with the best support system.

She was preceded in death by parents Clarence and Lucille Flowers; and mother and father-in-law John and LuVern Traub.

She is survived by husband of 44 years, Steve Traub of Owensville, daughters, Amy Decker and husband Jamie of Owensville and Jennifer VanWinkle and husband Aaron of Springfield; grandchildren, Logan and Brendan Decker of Owensville and Alivia and Gavin VanWinkle of Springfield; brother, Jim Flowers and wife Brigitte; sisters-in-law, Mary Korman and husband Gerald and LuAnn Richter and husband Dale; brothers-in-law, Alan Traub and wife Sherry and Neil Traub and wife Paula; seven nieces, eight nephews, 22 great nieces/nephews and three great, great nieces.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville and will be held there Sunday July 23.  Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. and services will begin at 3 p.m. with Pastor Tom Lloyd officiating.

Memorials requested for St. James Church for the purpose of remodeling.
