Chester William Thiedke, 99, Eureka, formerly of Owensville, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Victorian Gardens in Eureka.
He was born Sept. 20, 1926, to the late Edward Ernest and Mary Rose (Kosark) Thiedke in Owensville.
He was united in marriage Nov. 24, 1951, to Eloise “Mert” Mertell in Pocahontas, Ark.
Chester had served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1944-1952.
He was a past president of the Owensville Lions Club, a member of VFW Post 6133 and the Owensville Moose Lodge 878.
Chester enjoyed golf, bowling and hunting quail and pheasants.
He was preceded in death by wife, Eloise “Mert”; parents, Edward and Mary Rose; siblings, Gerald, Elmer, Walter, Clarence, Raymond, Robert and Richard Thiedke and Evelyn Ruskaup.
Chester is survived by son, Michael Thiedke and wife Linda of Owensville; granddaughter, Jessica Gray and husband Bill of Eureka; and great-granddaughters, McKenna and Hailey Gray of Eureka.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 9 until 11 a.m., Saturday, May 16, at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville. Interment of the ashes will follow at Countryside Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
