City officials voted to suspend the regular opening of the yard waste drop-off site through the winter.
The site, located at the old east lagoon on Shotwell Road, was manned by a public works employee the first Friday of each month. Residents could use the site to dispose of branches and debris from their yards.
Public Works Director Nick Grube explained to the board that around 20 residents took advantage of the service when the weather was warm. Through the winter, that number drops to three or four users each month.
Grube feels that is not enough use to justify the manpower it takes to open the site. He suggested that the site be open by appointment only through the end of February. The board agreed.
Residents who need to dispose of yard waste can make an appointment by calling city hall at 573-764-3340 or Grube’s work cell phone, 636-582-0807.
