Dear Editor,
Twice now, the proposed bond issue for the Gasconade County R-2 School District has narrowly failed. Each time, the margin has been small — a reflection not of opposition to our schools, but of uncertainty and unanswered questions. As this issue returns to the ballot, I encourage our community to take a fresh look at what is truly at stake.
Our schools are more than buildings. They are where our children learn discipline, teamwork, responsibility, and the skills they need to succeed after graduation. The facilities that serve our students every day must be functional and built to meet current needs — not the needs of 20 or 30 years ago.
For years, responsible taxpayers in this district have invested in maintaining and improving school facilities. A bond issue is not about creating something extravagant; it is about protecting that long-standing investment. When we delay necessary upgrades and repairs, costs rise. Inflation, material prices, and construction demands do not wait. What could be addressed today at one cost will almost certainly cost more tomorrow.
A “yes” vote is a vote to:
• Address critical facility needs
• Maintain property values in our community
• Support the long-term strength of our local economy
Quality schools attract families and businesses. They strengthen property values and community pride. Even residents without children in school benefit from a strong district, because the health of our schools directly reflects the health of our community.
This bond issue has come close to passing twice. That tells me many citizens already see its importance. I respectfully encourage those who may still have questions to attend meetings, review the facts, and consider the long-term impact of this decision.
Investing in our schools is not a short-term expense. It is a long-term commitment to the future of Gasconade County.
When the time comes, I urge our community to vote “Yes” for our students and for the future of Gasconade County R-2.
Sincerely,
Randy Crowe
