In spite of not being able to defend their district titles from last winter, Owensville Dutchmen and Dutchgirl basketball teams coached by Cullen VanLeer and Matt Kramme respectively saw three players earn postseason recognition from the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) following voting that took place last Wednesday.
Dutchgirl junior Cameron Ryerson was the lone orange and black selection to the All-FRC Girls Basketball Second Team while Brady Watson was a unanimous All-FRC First Team selection to go along with Chase Crosby being an All-FRC Second Team nod.
Ryerson led the Dutchgirls averaging 9.4 points per game, 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.
She also averaged 1.5 assists which was good for second on the team behind Abbey Quilacio’s 1.9 assists a game.
Hitting for double figures in five of seven FRC contests, Ryerson scored a season-high 20 points against Pacific.
In the game prior to that against New Haven’s Lady Shamrocks, Ryerson posted a double double of 17 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.
Ryerson’s other double double on the season came in the seventh-place game of the Hermann Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament when she had 18 points and 13 rebounds during a 61-57 double-overtime victory over Gateway Legacy Christian Academy.
Two games into their season prior to Thanksgiving, Ryerson record a season-high six assists and five steals against Chamois’ Lady Pirates.
Joining Ryerson on the All-FRC Second Team were Sullivan junior Olivia Barton, Pacific freshman Myla Miller, St. James senior Avery Campbell, Union freshman Tyler Steele, Hermann freshman Brynlee Ash and St. James senior Sophie DeLuca.
All-FRC First-Team selections in girls basketball included St. James junior Payge Kemnitzer, Hermann senior Kealie Lane, St. Clair junior Lila Hinson, St. Clair senior Emma Talleur, Union sophomore Kyndal Brown, Sullivan junior Karlee Head, St. James junior Adalee Richardson and Hermann freshman Andrea VanBooven.
Kemnitzer was named the FRC Player of the Year while Brown and Head were selected Co-FRC Defensive Players of the Year.
Pacific freshman Lili Douglas was named the FRC Sixth Girl of the Year while St. James Lady Tiger head basketball coach Terry Wells was named the FRC Coach of the Year leading the Lady Tigers to an outright FRC title and their fifth consecutive district championship.
Playing in all but one of Owensville’s 25 games, Watson led the orange and black averaging 8.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals while second on the team in points per game with 12.6 and assists at 2.6 per game.
Crosby led the Dutchmen in the scoring column averaging 15.2 points per game while Keigan Glaser led OHS in assists with three per game.
Reaching double figures in 17 games, Watson scored a season-high 22 points in FRC play against New Haven.
In addition to his multiple double-digit scoring games, Watson also pulled down at least 10 rebounds in 11 contests.
Of those 11 games, Watson added at least 10 points in 10 of those contests giving him 10 double doubles for the season.
That included two streaks of four consecutive double doubles from the final game of 2025 through the entire Owensville Tournament.
His second streak of four straight double doubles started in Kansas at the Frontenac Tournament before ending late in January against Salem.
Watson’s best night on the glass came against St. Mary’s-Colgate out of Kansas with 14 points and a season-best 15 rebounds.
Other teams that Watson recorded double doubles against included Russellville, Southern Boone, Pacific, Gateway Legacy Christian Academy, Frontenac (KS), Cuba and Salem.
