Dr. Dan “Doc” Brown, 70, Rolla, former State Senator, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021.

He was born Dec. 22, 1950, to Dwaine Brown and Thelma (Parmenter) Brown.

He was united in marriage to Kathy (Diedrich) Brown, June 19, 1970, in Houston.

Doc began his veterinary career in 1977 in Rolla. He served as a member of the Missouri House of Representatives for two years before being elected to the Missouri Senate where he served eight years, the final two as Chairman of Appropriations of the State of Missouri. Upon his return to Rolla from Jefferson City, he continued practicing veterinary medicine.

He was preceded in death by parents, Dwaine and Thelma; and parents-in-law, Wilmer and Marion Diedrich.

He is survived by wife, Kathy, of Rolla; daughter, Danette Sherrell and husband Brad of Rolla; son, Justin Brown of Rolla; brothers, Don Brown and wife Mary of Fayette and Frank Brown and wife Sue of Rolla; daughter-in-law, Laura Brown of Rolla; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 17, at Greentree Christian Church in Rolla with interment following in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorial contributions suggested to Delbert Day Cancer Center, Greentree Christian Church or the Rolla Animal Shelter.
