Dannell “Danny” J. Campbell, 56, of Owensville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 17, 1967, a son to the late Dorsey Jay Campbell and Elaine (Bunton) Campbell in Nuremberg, Germany. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives of her home.

Danny was a 1985 graduate of Owensville High School, a lifelong area resident, and a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves and later joined the U.S. Navy where he served during the Persian Gulf War and retired from it after years of service. Danny loved his country, was very patriotic and was a longtime and active member of V.F.W. Post #6133 in Owensville, where he served as the Senior Vice Commander and helped with the bingo for many years.

In June of 1985, Danny was united in marriage to Shari Basham. From this union a son, Daniel was born. Although they later divorced, they remained friends through the years. Danny found love again and on Feb. 5, 2001, he was united in marriage to Terri Markin in Boonville, Ark. She preceded him in death Oct. 22, 2021.

Danny enjoyed being outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and liked camping out. Danny liked older country music and helping his father, Jay, in restoring the old cars and was in the middle of restoring a 57 Chevy until his health declined. He was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues. Danny was selfless and giving and would help out anyone in need. His best times were time spent with his grandchildren and every year would take them and the family to the last three St. Louis Cardinal games. Danny will be missed tremendously by his family, friends, and anyone who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Whitney Campbell; father, Dorsey Jay Campbell; and wife, Terri.

Danny is survived by mother, Elaine; son, Daniel and wife Kate of Chicago, Ill.; granddaughters, Leah and Callie Campbell; sister, Tracy Dawn Sovar and husband Steve of Owensville; brothers, Toby Clay Campbell and wife Connie of Caanan and Dennis Dewayne Vaughn and wife Shelia of Bourbon; step-children, David, John, Marie, and Emmy; and golden retriever, Pug; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
