Hosting Linn’s Wildcats last Monday afternoon at Owensville High School’s OHS Field, Steven Kemp’s Owensville Dutchmen looked to extend their recent home winning streak to three games with a victory over their Osage County foes.

Behind some crooked numbers in the early innings, Owensville went on to post a 10-2 victory over Linn behind three-hit efforts from catcher Chris Allen and second baseman Bryce Kramme.

After Dutchmen starting pitcher Leyton Homeyer retired the Wildcats in order in the top of the first inning, his offense went to work in the bottom half of the first looking for an early lead.

Hitting first-inning singles for the orange and black were Westin Kramme, Homeyer and Allen.

Jax Johnston and Liam Rasmussen scored as courtesy runners for Homeyer and Allen respectively while Westin Kramme scored on a Bryce Kramme RBI single capping Owensville three-run bottom of the first inning.

Following a scoreless second inning, Linn got two runs on two hits and a walk before the Dutchmen had a chance to answer in the bottom half of the second.

Bryce Kramme singled and scored when Chase Weirich walked with the bases loaded before Gabe Medlock singled and scored on a Tucker Sassmann RBI single giving Owensville their three-run lead back at 5-2 after three innings.

During Owensville’s half of the fourth inning, they were able to hang four more on the board highlighted by Homeyer reaching on an error allowing George Vandegriffe and Medlock to score helping the Dutchmen to a 9-2 lead after four innings.

OHS scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when Allen reached on an error before being relieved by Rasmussen on the bases.

Sassmann drove in his third run of the game on a RBI single to center field scoring Rasmussen for what turned out to be the game’s final run.

Homeyer earned the complete-game victory pitching all seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks to go with seven strikeouts

Junior-varsity action between the Dutchmen and Wildcats wound up in a 3-3 tie.

Payten Pendleton, Kenneth Schebaum and Jack Tesson each scored a run for the Dutchmen while hits came from Henry Loeb, Khai Krupp, Westin Kramme, Vandegriffe, Tesson and Pendleton.

Also hosting Dixon’s Bulldogs last Friday night, Owensville could only push across two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning after Dixon plated five putting the Dutchmen on the wrong end of a 5-2 final score.

Homeyer led the Owensville offense with two hits while Allen, Medlock and Westin Kramme each also had a hit.

Elliott Phillips and Vandegriffe each crossed the plate once for the Dutchmen in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Hosting Steelville Monday night, the Dutchmen concluded their regular season last night (Tuesday) in a Highway 19 road showdown at Cuba against the Wildcats.

Owensville will open play in the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 4, District 9 Tournament at Osage High School on Tuesday, May 19 facing Eldon’s Mustangs at 7 p.m.
