Drive by birthday greetings

Alivia Viehland got her neighbors’ attention with a special birthday drive-by from local first responders.

She celebrated her eighth birthday Monday, in seclusion in her home on Terrace Drive. To help make her day special, three fire trucks, an ambulance and a police car paraded in front of her house.

With lights blazing and sirens blaring, the first responders waved at Alivia and a few people gathered in her yard. Neighbors came out of their houses to see what all the fuss was about.

The Gerald-Rosebud Fire Protection District organized the drive-by celebration. They are willing to do this for any child within their district, who will be celebrating a birthday while the stay-at-home order is in place.

If you would like to learn more, visit the department’s Facebook page and follow the instructions in the post. The fire department will also be doing its first storytime on Facebook this Friday at 2 p.m. After a story to the kids who tune in, there will be a virtual tour of the firehouse and some of the equipment.

The department is still handling its usual load of fire calls and providing mutual aid to other agencies. They are just going the extra mile to help make the children in their community feel a little special in a trying time. Going above and beyond seems to be what they do best.
