A Gerald man sustained serious injuries Monday evening when the pickup truck he was driving went off Holzschuh Road and struck a tree.
Thomas C. Winter, 46, was transported by Owensville Area Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital Washington for treatment following the crash reported to the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 6:05 p.m. June 26. Winter was driving a 2016 Toyota Tacoma north on Holzschuh approximately 538 feet south of Rehmert Road when the truck crossed the centerline, went off the left side of the road, and struck an oak tree.
The pickup truck overturned, coming to rest on its top.
He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP report by Trooper Dustin H. Crafton.
Two young children, an infant under the age of 1, and a toddler, about 2-years-old, were restrained in child seats and were uninjured. Residents living across the road and Owensville firemen were tending to the children until their mother arrived to pick them up. A crew from the Gerald Area Ambulance District (GAAD) responded to assist as a backup unit for Owensville. GAAD personnel examined the children and they were released AMA (against medical advise) to their mother. Neither had any apparent injuries from the crash.
