Playing three matches in three days including two on Saturday over the weekend in the Chris Hotop Classic at Mexico High School, Kim McGee’s Owensville Dutchgirls were able to accomplish something no other Owensville High School (OHS) girls soccer team had done before.
Entering their Four Rivers Conference (FRC) showdown last Thursday against Union’s Lady Wildcats at Union High School’s E.A. Stierberger Stadium, Owensville had lost their previous meetings by mercy rule scores ranging from 8-0 to 11-0.
That changed with Owensville lasting the full 80 minutes behind 24 saves from sophomore goalie Riley Grube during a 2-0 loss to Union.
Morgan Sherwood scored a goal in each half for the Lady Wildcats.
Cheyenne Nixon had four shots on goal for the Dutchgirls in the match.
Hosting Blair Oaks at Dutchmen Field Monday night, Owensville also traveled to Crocker last night (Tuesday) for a non-conference road match before returning home to Dutchmen Field tomorrow (Thursday) for a Highway 28 girls soccer showdown against Dixon’s Lady Bulldogs.
Owensville will then hit the road into Franklin County for another FRC soccer tilt against Pacific’s Lady Indians on Monday, April 6 with a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.
In the Chris Hotop Classic Saturday at Mexico High School, Owensville fell to Jefferson City 8-0 in their tournament opener before bouncing back with a 5-1 victory in the third-place match over the host Lady Bulldogs.
