Last week over a span of 24 hours, Cullen VanLeer’s Owensville Dutchmen basketball teams ended their regular season facing Sullivan’s Eagles in C team, junior-varsity and varsity action.
After splitting boys action between the C and JV squads last Monday night, VanLeer’s varsity Dutchmen looked to pick up their Dutchgirl counterparts last Tuesday night in the nightcap of a varsity basketball doubleheader at Sullivan High School.
Down 37-30 entering the fourth quarter, Owensville outscored the Eagles 25-12 during the final eight minutes of their 55-49 victory helping them end their regular season with an overall record of 10-13.
Trailing 13-4 after one quarter, the Dutchmen caught fire from beyond the 3-point arc hitting five shots from there in the second quarter helping them go into halftime facing a manageable five-point deficit at 26-21.
Chase Crosby and Keigan Glaser each hit a pair of second-quarter 3-pointers giving them six first-half points apiece to pace the orange and black.
Edged 11-9 in the third quarter, Owensville entered the fourth quarter still trailing by single digits at 37-30.
Blitzing the Eagles 25-12 over the last eight minutes, VanLeer’s Dutchmen ended their regular season on a winning note.
Crosby showed the way for Owensville with a game-high 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Of his 17 points, Crosby netted 11 of them in the second half.
Glaser followed close behind with 16 points including 10 of them in the second half.
He also added a team-high four rebounds, two steals and two assists to his 16 points.
Brady Watson made it a trio of double-digit Dutchmen scoring eight of his 12 points in the second half.
Watson also added five assists, four rebounds and three steals to his double-digit point total.
Drew Chapman threw in five of his eight points in the second half while also adding three assists, two rebounds and a steal to his stat line.
Adam Wilson rounded out the Dutchmen scoring with two points on a second-quarter bucket.
Last Monday night as part of a sub-varsity tripleheader, Owensville’s JV Dutchmen trailed 20-19 at halftime after being tied with Sullivan at 11-11 after one quarter.
Coming out on the short end of a 47-41 final score, Koen Brooks led Scott Lewis’ JV Dutchmen scoring 10 of his 15 points in the second half.
Bryce Kramme hit a pair of first-half 3-pointers helping him finish with eight points on the night.
Charlie Katsov was close behind Kramme with seven points to go along with four markers apiece from Kylen Menz and Cohen Dare.
Broden Kelley capped the JV Dutchmen scoring against Sullivan on an old-fashioned 3-point play in the second quarter.
In C-team action, Owensville led Sullivan 11-6 after one quarter and 18-14 at halftime behind five first-half points from Tyler Menz.
Building their lead up to seven points at 36-29 after three quarters, the orange and black were able to narrowly hold on for a 42-40 win behind nine points from LB Sublett all scored in the second half.
Lucas Staton and Ryder Wehmeyer each added six points to go along with Tyler Menz’s aforementioned five points.
Netting four points apiece were Elliott Phillips, Tanner Mogensen and Hunter Downey.
Ayden Holaway hit a third-quarter 3-pointer for three points while Dare capped the Owensville scoring on a third-quarter bucket for two points.
