Falling 45-34 last Tuesday night against Pacific’s Indians on senior night, Cullen VanLeer’s Owensville Dutchmen turned their attention to last Friday’s Four Rivers Conference (FRC) showdown on the road in Union against John VanLeer’s Wildcats.
Tied at 33-33 near the 3:00 mark of the fourth quarter, Owensville saw Union end the game on a 7-2 run before eventually falling 40-35 against the host Wildcats.
Brady Watson led the Dutchmen with a team-high 15 points followed in double figures by Chase Crosby who scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half.
Keigan Glaser rounded out the Owensville scoring in varsity action at Union with eight points.
Scott Lewis’ Owensville JV Dutchmen led 9-4 after one quarter and 30-16 at halftime before going on to a 52-42 victory behind a game-high 20 points from Koen Brooks.
Having his way from beyond the 3-point arc, Bryce Kramme hit five shots from 3-point land giving him 15 points for the game against Union’s JV Wildcats.
Charlie Katsov added seven points followed closely by six marker from Cohen Dare.
Rounding out the JV Dutchmen scoring with two points apiece at Union were Kylen Menz and Broden Kelley.
During a senior-night tripleheader last Tuesday night against Pacific at Owensville High School (OHS), Owensville led 19-15 at halftime in varsity action before taking a 27-26 lead into the fourth quarter.
Outscored 19-7 over the final eight minutes, VanLeer’s Dutchmen ended up on the short end of a 45-34 final score.
All five seniors started the game on the floor for Owensville in Henry Womack, Adam Wilson, Drew Chapman, Logan Valley and Chase Weirich.
Crosby showed the way for Owensville against the Indians with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Chapman added seven points, three rebounds and an assist while Glaser and Weirich chipped in five points apiece.
Wyatt Lewis rounded out the varsity Dutchmen scoring against Pacific with two points.
Unable to dig out of a 24-7 halftime deficit, Owensville’s JV Dutchmen came out on the short end of a 52-22 final score against Pacific.
Katsov led the orange and black scoring five of his team-high eight points in the fourth quarter.
Brooks was close behind scoring all seven of his points in the third quarter.
Dare hit a pair of second-quarter baskets for four points while Kylen Menz added a third-quarter bucket for two points.
Andrew Budnik capped the JV Dutchmen scoring against Pacific with a fourth-quarter free throw for one point.
Tied at 7-7 in C-team action after one quarter, Owensville trailed Pacific 12-8 at halftime before trimming the deficit to one at 16-15 after three quarters.
Edged 11-8 over the final seven minutes, OHS also fell 27-23 to Pacific in C-team action.
Tanner Mogensen led the Dutchmen with nine points followed by five points out of LB Sublett.
Hunter Downey added four points all on free throws to go along with three points from Ryder Wehmeyer.
Rounding out the OHS scoring with one point each on fourth-quarter free throws were Lucas Staton and Elliott Phillips.
Closing their regular season last night (Tuesday) at Sullivan, VanLeer’s Dutchmen will face Sullivan’s Eagles again on Tuesday, March 3 in opening-round action of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 4, District 3 Boys Basketball Tournament at Cuba High School.
