For Steven Kemp’s Owensville Dutchmen, it was a tough week on the diamond with home action at OHS Field last Tuesday against Rolla followed by a Four Rivers Conference (FRC) road tilt at Pacific and a Saturday twin bill at Southern Boone against the host Eagles and Mexico Bulldogs.
Last Tuesday on their home field, Owensville trailed 6-3 after three innings before the visiting Rolla Bulldogs plated seven unanswered runs leaving them on the wrong end of a 13-3 final score in five innings.
Westin Kramme took the loss allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks to go with two strikeouts.
Owensville got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Chris Allen was hit by a pitch.
Kastin Warren then come on as a courtesy runner and scored on a Gabe Medlock RBI double cutting Rolla’s lead to 3-1 after two innings.
Now down 6-1 entering the bottom of the third inning, Owensville plated their remaining two runs on a hit batter, hit and two walks.
Tucker Sassmann walked to lead off the bottom of the third inning before Chase Weirich drew a base on balls right after Sassmann.
Both runners scored when Medlock reached on a Rolla error to cut the Bulldog lead in half to 6-3 after three innings.
Allen and Medlock recorded consecutive singles in the bottom of the fifth inning to account for the remainder of their three hits.
George Vandegriffe and Kramme both drew a team-high two walks in the loss to Rolla.
Owensville also fell 4-1 in JV action against Rolla with Payten Pendleton dashing the JV Bulldog bid for a perfect game drawing a leadoff walk in the bottom of the third inning.
On the road for FRC baseball action in Pacific, Owensville put up five runs in the top of the third inning before seeing Pacific come back to score eight unanswered runs leaving the orange and black on the short end of a 9-5 final score.
Vandegriffe led Owensville five-run third inning off with a solo home run before Khai Krupp reached on catcher’s interference with one out.
Krupp would score on a Kramme RBI ground out before Tucker Sassmann drove in Kramme on a RBI single.
After Sassmann was retired trying to advance to second base, Chase Weirich helped his own cause with a two-out single before Cael Walker replaced him on the base paths as a courtesy runner.
Walker’s stay on the bases was a short one as Allen launched a two-run home run to dead center field capping Owensville’s five-run top of the third inning.
Pacific then tied the game at 5-5 with four runs in the bottom of the third inning before putting up two runs apiece in the bottom half of the fourth and sixth innings.
Weirich took the loss pitching five innings while allowing seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and one walk to go with five strikeouts.
Henry Loeb had Owensville’s sixth and final hit against Pacific on a two-out single in the top of the fourth inning.
Falling 7-1 in the JV game, Owensville scored their lone run in the top of the second inning when Caleb Lottmann singled and scored on a Pendleton RBI single.
Warren also drew two walks for the JV Dutchmen against Pacific.
In Saturday baseball at Southern Boone High School in Ashland, Owensville fell 8-0 against Mexico before falling 10-0 to the host Eagles in five innings.
Medlock and Jax Johnston accounted for both hits against Mexico while Henry Womack and Loeb each also drew walks against the Bulldogs.
Sassmann took the loss pitching five innings against Mexico allowing eight runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks to go with four strikeouts.
During Owensville’s 10-0 loss against the host Eagles Saturday afternoon, Sassmann and Weirich recorded both hits for the orange and black while Loeb drew Owensville’s lone walk.
Leyton Homeyer took the loss against Southern Boone pitching two and two-thirds innings allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and no walks to go with six strikeouts.
Weather and field conditions permitting, Owensville is scheduled to hit the road to St. James today (Wednesday) for FRC baseball at Nelson Hart Park before competing later this week on Friday and Saturday at the Moberly Wood Bat Invitational being played at Moberly High School and Moberly Area Community College.
