HALLSVILLE — Two weeks removed from their last action at the Sam Richardson Duals Tournament in Moberly, Dustin Howard’s Owensville Dutchmen wrestlers opened the 2026 portion of their season over the weekend at the Hallsville Holiday Wrestling Tournament just north of Columbia.
Taking seven wrestlers to compete in two gyms at Hallsville High School, OHS placed 17th with 54 team points led by Steven Buddemeyer’s fourth-place finish at 144 pounds.
Entering 2026 with a 15-0 record, Buddemeyer pinned his way to the semifinals with wins by fall over Helias’ Maksim Careaga (1:36) and Centralia’s Walker Adkisson in 3:33.
Losing by technical fall to Fort Zumwalt North’s Patrick Provost, Steven then won a 10-2 major decision over Palmyra’s Emmett Lorenson to advance to the third-place match against Clinton’s Connor Bramell.
Dropping a 5-1 decision to his Cardinal opponent, Buddemeyer settled for fourth place at 144 pounds.
Provost went on to place second in the tournament.
Freshman Bo Buddemeyer also placed fifth at 138 pounds winning an 11-8 decision over Maplewood-Richmond Heights’ Leon Lungu.
Edging Maysville’s Bryson Jestes in a 3-0 decision, Bo then won a 12-2 major decision in the quarterfinals over Washington’s Ethan James advancing him to the semifinals and a match with Centralia’s Charlie Robinson.
Pinned in :43, Buddemeyer fell to the consolation side of the bracket while Robinson went on to win the 138-pound weight class at Hallsville.
Losing a 5-4 decision to Rock Bridge’s Wyatt Fisher, Buddemeyer bounced back ending his tournament on a winning note in the fifth-place match.
Fisher went on to place fourth at 138 pounds.
At 150 pounds, Mason Turner won a 14-7 decision over (Columbia) Hickman’s Harry Odette before losing his next two matches by fall and ending up eliminated from the tournament.
Turner’s two losses came to Excelsior Springs’ Gaige Carr and Edwardsville’s Elijah Thompson who went on to place second and sixth respectively at 150 pounds.
Keagon Schatz pinned Warren Caine (STEAM Academy at McCluer South-Berkeley) in 2:22 at 157 pounds before his next loss ended his tournament.
Schatz lost his first-round match by fall to Fort Zumwalt North’s Drake Weston in 2:34. Weston went on to place third in the tournament.
Senior Zach Barch posted a win by fall over Washington’s Landon Aguayo in 2:50 during the second round of consolation bracket wrestling at 165 pounds before seeing his tournament end after losing a 10-3 decision in the next round.
Will Coppedge lost an 8-5 decision at 175 pounds to Excelsior Springs’ Maison Logan before seeing his tournament end with a loss by fall in the second round of consolation bracket wrestling.
Rounding out Owensville’s contingency of wrestlers at Hallsville was Cael Walker at 190 pounds.
Pinning Francis Howell’s Joshua Rumfelt by fall in 1:26 during first-round action, Walker lost by a 16-1 technical fall in the next round to eventual tournament champion Deacon Moran from Fort Zumwalt North.
Before being eliminated in the fourth round of the consolation bracket, Walker scored two more wins by fall over Hickman’s Jayden Garcia in :34 and Kirkwood’s Cash Schoemehl also in :34.
OHS’ Dutchmen and Dutchgirls will return to action tomorrow (Thursday) in a tri-meet at Southern Boone against the host Eagles and Eldon.
