Earline Elsie Sickendick, 98, of Gerald, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at Victorian Place of Owensville where she had lived happily for over six and a half years.

She was born March 16, 1925, to Dewey and Marie (Nolting) Koelling in Champion City. She grew up on the farm and attended Champion City School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Sullivan High School.

She was united in marriage to Raymond F. Sickendick, Oct. 23, 1943, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald. She and Ray worked hard on their farm and raised three children.

When Ray passed, Earline was in her early 40s. She used her initiative and went to nursing school. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). As a LPN, she worked as a private duty nurse and then was employed at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Washington for over 21 years.

When Earline was not working as a LPN, she was never idle. She worked on the farm gardening, canning, cooking, sewing and always putting others needs before her own.

Earline was preceded in death by husband, Ray; son, Dale; parents, Dewey and Marie; brother, Edgar; sisters-in-law, Gladyne, Imogene, Viola, Frieda and Shirley; brothers-in-law, Herb, William Jr., Louis and Henry.

She is survived by son, Mel and wife Katie of Dallas, Ore.; daughter, Jane Giedinghagen and husband Kurt of Independence; brother, David Koelling and wife Myrtie of White House, Tenn.; seven grandsons, Greg, Ray, Chris, Bill, Jake, Jess and Aaron; and great-grandchildren; plus other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 3 at St Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald with Pastor Rhonda Winters officiating. Burial was at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions suggested to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ or Victorian Place of Owensville.
