Last week most of the national news centered around a group of teenagers from a Catholic High School in Covington, Texas, and a confrontation in Washington, D.C., while at the annual Pro-Life March. Through falsehoods and lies they were portrayed as evil incarnate, until the truth came out.
There were two other items in the news about abortion that many missed because of this outrage caused by social media and a biased press, and one was truly evil.
Abortion story number one
In May 2018 our neighbors to the north in the great state of Iowa passed a law banning an abortion once a fetus’ heartbeat is detected. Last week a judge struck down the law saying it violated the state’s constitution.
The law takes the logical conclusion that if death can be determined when a heart stops beating, then a beating heart should be an indication of life.
That is what the courts want to stay away from, a legal definition of when life begins because the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution declares that no state shall deprive any person of life, liberty or property without due process of law.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it’s a scientific fact — life begins at conception. That is not an opinion, it is a fact. It’s not a consensus held by the majority of scientists. Iowa Senate Democratic Leader Janet Petersen said, “The extreme law should have been overturned because it restricted the freedom of Iowa women and girls to care for their bodies and it forced motherhood on them.”
Forced motherhood. That is a curious statement.
I contend that Petersen cares nothing about unborn children because they cannot vote for her, so their lives mean nothing to her.
The purpose of the law was not to force motherhood but to recognize a life and protect it under our constitution. If you remember, there was another time when members of our society were not considered human and did not fall under the protection of the constitution — they were slaves.
Abortion story number two
Last Tuesday on the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the New York State Senate passed the Reproductive Health Act legalizing abortions up until the mother’s due date if the woman’s health is endangered or if the fetus is not viable. The previous law only allowed abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy if a woman’s life was at risk.
Notice the difference — before it was the woman’s life was at risk, now your health is endangered, very unambiguous.
As the bill was passed, a video shows the assembly chamber erupting into cheers as if they had just won the Superbowl — not condemning innocent babies to death. This is a sign of pure evil.
A similar bill is being proposed in Vermont.
Doctors consider 22 weeks the earliest gestational age when a baby is “viable,” or able to survive outside the womb. Now in the state of New York you can abort — meaning kill your baby — legally at 40 weeks.
Once again, politicians in New York obviously don’t consider even a baby that’s been in it’s mother’s womb for 40 weeks to be human.
In the last century the Nazis in Hitler’s Germany did not consider Jews to be human so they exterminated 6 million of them in one of the darkest chapters in world history.
In Pennsylvania, Dr. Kermit Gosnell was convicted of three murders — though it’s estimated the Philadelphia doctor killed hundreds more in his low-cost abortion clinic.
He was convicted of performing abortions well past the law of 24 weeks by inducing the mother’s into labor — allowing them to give birth to a live child — before using a pair of surgical scissors to snip the newborn’s spinal cord.
With the new law in New York that procedure is now legal.
In every injustice man does to man, whether it’s one-on-one or societal, the perpetrators do not believe the victim is human.
Some people argue, “what about rape, surely you believe abortion is OK in the event of rape?”
The lady who Connie and I credit for bringing us together was born nine months after her mother was raped. She was a beautiful, loving and caring person. It was not her fault that her mother was raped.
Thank God she did not have to pay the price.
