HERMANN – One of the challenging aspects of domestic life — preparing meals for a member dealing with diabetes — will be tackled during a class this month offered by Missouri University Extension.

The University of Missouri Extension (MU Extension) in Gasconade County is offering a healthy cooking class for individuals with diabetes, Dining with Diabetes.

In this class:

• Participants learn how to make meals that are healthy, easy to prepare and tasty.

• Recipes will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity to taste each one.

• Participants will also learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning and exercise and how to understand common diabetes-related medical tests.

Recipes and a workbook will be given to each participant.

The Dining with Diabetes course meets four consecutive weeks on the following Wednesdays, May 13, 20, 27 and June 3 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The classes will be held at the Hermann offices of the Gasconade County Health Department located at 1714 Wein Street in Hermann. The offices are located in the former Southwest Medical Associates Clinic building across the street from Hermann Area District Hospital.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Diabetes Education Program sponsorship of the $50 fee for the series to cover the cost of food and materials has been waived.
