Mentz Foundations has begun work on a new building for the Gerald-Rosebud Fire Protection District in Rosebud. The project is expected to be completed in late July or early August and will cost around $239,000.
Deputy Fire Chief Justin Haase says the new structure will not be an addition to station 3, but will be approximately 13 feet south of the existing fire station. He notes the district purchased the land for the project several years ago.
Station 3 is located in the 200 block of S. Cedar St. in Rosebud. Stations 1 and 2 are in Gerald.
The district has been saving money for this project for many years. Their growing fleet of vehicles can no longer fit in their three existing fire stations.
Haase says the new 80 x 40 foot building will be basically an open plan for now. It will house the district’s new tanker 733 and a brush truck. There will be electricity and water to wash equipment, but no other amenities are planned for this phase.
Integrity Engineering, Inc. drew the plans for the building. The district chose to upgrade the original insulation package to help control energy costs, according to Haase.
