Scoring in the first quarter on a five-yard touchdown run from senior Kohlt Witthaus, Jed Leeper’s Hermann Bearcat football team could not find the scoreboard the rest of the night during their 36-6 season-opening loss on the road at Montgomery County High School against the host Wildcats.
Will Schutt led the Bearcats rushing attack with 43 yards on nine carries while Witthaus added 38 yards rushing on seven carries and a touchdown.
Kyle Koch also had three carries for 21 yards on the ground while Carter Humphrey carried the ball four times for two yards.
Through the air, Koch was 9-16 passing for 83 yards and an interception.
Witthaus led Hermann among wide receivers with two catches for 44 yards while Schutt also caught two balls for 21 yards.
Humphrey added two catches for 10 yards receiving to his rushing yardage while Tayven Hopkins also caught three passes for eight yards.
Defensively, Koch had an interception while Nathaniel Rucker had a fumble recovery.
Adding to his receiving and rushing yardage, Witthaus also had the lone sack for the Bearcats on defense.
Adding to his sack, Witthaus led the Bearcats with seven tackles followed by Brady Traub with five total tackles.
Rucker and Hopkins each added four solo tackles while the Bearcat trio of Sawyer Moore, Eli Pilger and Corbin Sadler all recorded three total tackles apiece.
Emmerson Binkholder, Carter Baynes, Cole Brinker Schutt, Koch and Humphrey each recorded two total tackles to go along with one from Creten Page.
Hermann will host South Callaway’s Bulldogs this Friday night at Bearcat Memorial Stadium.
