HERMANN — The projects that would be financed with bond money — and the amount of bond funds to be requested from voters in April — was expected to have been decided yesterday afternoon by the directors of the Gasconade County R-1 School District.
The special session, set for 5 p.m. In the Administration Building, took place after the Gasconade County Republican went to press. The results will be included in next week’s edition.
There are several potential capital improvements that have been discussed in the past year as possible bond-issue projects. Those range from a new roof on Hermann High School to heating-and-cooling system improvements at Hermann elementary and middle schools to a coating of asphalt for the parking lot at the high school and middle school. Another significant project might be the remodeling of the older portion of classrooms at the elementary school.
The district has a bonding capacity of about $S7 million, but R-1 Superintendent Geoff Neill has said he doesn’t think the projects being considered would require that much money, possibly needing $4.5 to $5 million. A $5-million bond issue proposed two years ago fell short by only 32 votes. Although it gained a majority of support, it did not reach the four-sevenths majority needed for approval.
R-1 officials will explain the bond issue as being a no-tax-increase proposal, meaning that the bonds could be paid for with the district’s debt service levy.
