Gasconade County R-2 directors to interview four candidates to replace Glaser

OWENSVILLE — Four Gasconade County R-2 School District directors meeting Friday morning, two in person and two virtually, have opted to interview four candidates to replace Keith Glaser.

Glaser resigned recently with a just under a year remaining on his first term and four potential replacements have applied for the position including Amy Estes, Joyce Lowes, Rebecca Goggin and Mitchell Henderson.

All four, the four directors agreed, brought their own unique experiences and enthusiasm for education. Kari Nolting, attending in person along with Board President Glenn Ely, noted “based on their applications” the board had a “blended bottle” to consider in seeking Glaser’s replacement through the April 2027 Municipal Election.

And, she thought, they owed them each an in-person interview.

“All these folks are greatly interested and will be in the future,” said Ely.

No matter who they select, Ely said they look forward to continue the “long-term continuity” and ability of the board “to adapt to conditions on the ground.”

Debbie Landolt, appearing via an electronic video feed, noted candidates have either prior experience in education, were previously on the board, or have sought election to the district’s Board of Education.

“They all have experience” the  board is looking for, she said. Adding those not selected can sign up to run again next April when a full three-year term comes up.

“We’ve got some good applications,” Ely agreed.

“Bringing on a new perspective is never a bad idea,” added Nolting.

The participating board members briefly discussed a concern over whether or not the new director would need to take a state-mandated training program for BOA members. Ely said new members were required to take training within a year of starting their term. Lowes, a former director, has already taken the program.

“I feel like we’re leaning toward interviews,” said Nolting.

Her fellow directors agreed. They are scheduled to convene again at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 25, to conduct interviews in what are expected to be 30-minute intervals.
