Gasconade R-2 COVID-19 numbers show improvement over snow break

The Gasconade County R-2 COVID-19 numbers have decreased again since the school reported them on Feb. 1, according to Assistant Superintendent Dr. Staci Johnson.

“Obviously the way people have been reporting has changed,” Johnson said before addressing questions about the district’s COVID-19 numbers. “We are in really good shape this week.”

According to reports, no staff members or teachers are out as of Feb. 7 and no positive cases have been reported.

“Our attendance the last two days has been as high as it has been all year,” Johnson continued. “Everyone (schools within the district) is at 94 percent or above the last two days.”

She added that the elementary schools that have been a concern over the past few weeks, with different types of sickness, have also shown improvement since returning to school on Monday.

“Since we have been back from the snow days, attendance is around 96 percent,” Johnson said.

Some of the improvement may be attributed to the fact that everyone was snowed in for several days last week by Winter Storm Landon.

Johnson added more good news. Despite worries from the community about road conditions on Monday, everything turned out well.

“No issues yesterday with buses,” she said. “Everyone got to school and on their bus safely.”
