Superintendent Dr. Jeri Kay Hardy told the board of education on Monday night that she received a response email from Senator Mike Bernskoetter’s office saying they would sponsor the dollar value modifier bill that would bring in over $1 million of additional revenue to the school district if passed.
Hardy sent an email to Bernskoetter’s office asking for help in sponsoring the dollar value modifier legislation that her predecessor Dr. Chuck Garner had been working toward.
“Last Wednesday I submitted the dollar value modifier to Senator Bernskoetter and had not received a reply,” Hardy began.
When Dr. Garner came into the office on Oct. 18 to use the paper cutter, Hardy asked him when he received a response from the legislators and he said they didn’t reply back. He always had to go to see them.
“I received a response today (at 4:58 p.m.) from Matt Morris, Senator Bernskoetter’s chief of staff, and they are going to pre-file the dollar value modifier bill for us,” Hardy said.
The dollar value modifier for Gasconade County is $1 per every $100 of assessed valuation while the higher dollar value modifier for Franklin County is $1.093 per $100 of assessed valuation which would result in an additional $1,066,637.
“I sent all of that in your email this afternoon in case someone has questions about it, along with salaries and the current value modifier because that changes every year,” Hardy said.
The district’s legislative breakfast with city, county, and state-level representatives is on Nov. 3 if anyone wants to discuss the dollar value modifier.
