Gene Harold Cox, 80, of Hermann, passed away Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023, at Lakeside Health’s Rehab in Carlinville, Ill.
He was born Nov. 8, 1942, to Roy Lee and Opal Marie (Whited) Cox in Willow Springs.
He was united in marriage to Ruby Irene Sorrell, Dec. 22, 1975, in Villa Ridge.
Gene had served his country with the U.S. Army as a light wheel vehicle driver. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by parents, Roy and Opal; wife, Ruby Irene; sister, Freda Weatherford and husband Robert; and step-daughter, Rhonda Newman and husband Alan.
He is survived by children, Jefferey Cox and wife Randi of Benald, Ill., Loretta Cox and husband Jeffery Carey of Ft. Worth, Texas and Mark Cox of Hermann; siblings, Bonnie Stricklin and husband Lloyd of Festus, Linda Elam and husband Gerry of Poplar Bluff, Sam Cox of Springfield and Herb Cox and wife Sally of Hatfield, Penn.; and nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 28, from 9:30 a.m.–1 p.m. at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Les Dority officiating. Burial will be in Licklider Cemetery near Cuba with full military honors.
