Earlier this month, the Union branch of Scenic Regional Library closed the doors of the building just off U. S. Highway 50 and began the move to their brand new building.

They left behind lots of shelving, tables and other fittings that weren’t needed in the new space. 

Steve Campbell, director of the Scenic system, contacted the Gerald Library and informed them several pieces were up for grabs. 

Marianne Netscher, president of the board at the Gerald Library, made a trip to Union last week to see what was available. 

Most of the metal shelving was up for grabs as were other library-specific items. The wooden tables, chairs and desks will be sold at a later date. 

 The Gerald library is not officially affiliated with the Scenic system. It is an all donation, all-volunteer library that was started in 1994 for the Gerald community.  However, the two library systems do have a loose cooperative collaboration. 

Netscher found a large section of metal shelving among other items that will be brought to Gerald. Another group of women from Pacific were also in Union looking for display equipment for a genealogical group to which they belong. 

Netscher is still working on actually getting the items from Union to Gerald, but is confident that will happen in the next week or two. 

Then it will be time to begin the fun job of rearranging some of the more than 10,000 books at the Gerald library.
