Griffith’s legacy continues to be honored in Rosebud

Posted

Rosebud’s police chief Mason Grifith was killed in the line of duty March 12 while serving with the Hermann police department.

On April 11, a flag was adopted as the official flag of Rosebud.

Emily Hollandsworth, as a member of the Rosebud Community Park Association, worked closely with Griffith on a variety projects to better their town. She says, “The flag represents Mason,  a great man, and Rosebud, a wonderful community.”

The flag will be flown over a planned memorial for which fund-raising is underway. Flags go on sale this week.

Hollandsworth notes that bricks, which will be the literal foundation for the memorial, are also being sold until August. You may order a brick online by visiting https://www.fundraisingbrick.com/online-orders/griffith/ or contact Hollandsworth at 573-505-2414.

The memorial will honor both Chief Griffith and also Adam Sullentrop, another Hermann officer who was injured in the incident that Griffith did not survive.

The Rosebud Community Park Association has partnered with Between the White Lines and the Gerald Lions Club to host a memorial event for Griffith. It will be held Saturday, May 13, at 10 a.m. This event will include a side by side ride that is open to all UTvs, ATVs and Jeeps. There will also be a silent and live auction, 50/50 raffle, a DJ and a beer garden.

Merchandise such as hoodies, t-shirts, hats, etc. will also be sold.

Kids can enjoy free activities including a human claw machine, dunk tank, bounce houses, fact painting and barrel rides.

Demonstrations are planned with LEO canines, a helicopter landing and a steam engine.

Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Sullentrop and Griffith families and the playground equipment project, which Griffith was passionate about.
