Hermann area baseball, softball teams stay alive in WYSA Tournaments

While little league softball and baseball may be finished for the summer in Owensville, a handful of Hermann area little league teams still have their seasons going competing in Washington Youth Sports Association (WYSA) Tournament action in Dutzow, Marthasville and Washington.

As of press time, four teams still had shots at claiming end-of-season tournament titles.

In the Chic Division, Purdy’s Stony Hill Hall edged the other Hermann squad sponsored by Shoemaker Construction and Remodel 16-15 in first-round action last Tuesday in Marthasville.

Purdy’s Stony Hill Hall faced off against Rothschild’s Restaurant last night (Tuesday) in the quarterfinals also in Marthasville.

A victory last night would move Purdy’s into the semifinals this Friday at 6:15 p.m., in Marthasville against the winner of Sonaca (Marthasville) and Ballmann Earthworks (Dutzow).

Precision Taping and Paint posted an 11-3 victory over Warco (Dutzow) last Tuesday night in the Debutante Division quarterfinals and faced off against Ernesto’s Monday night in semifinal action at Dutzow.

A victory would have put them in last night’s (Tuesday) championship game against the winner of Bade’s Farm (Dutzow) and K9 Kuts (Dutzow).

Harvey’s Body Shop in the Petite 2 Division Tournament posted a 12-6 win over Plumb Wizards (St. Clair) last Thursday advancing them to tomorrow’s (Thursday) quarterfinals against Home Oil Auto Repair (New Haven) at 6:15 p.m., in Marthasville.

Two Hermann teams competed in the Midget Division Tournament with one of them still alive as of press time.

DR Concrete posted a 19-3 opening-round victory back on Sunday, June 28 over Wade Gildehaus Contracting, LLC (New Haven) before taking an 8-3 win over Rad Roofing (St. Clair) last Thursday.

They took on a team sponsored by the American Legion post out of Marthasville Monday night looking to punch their ticket into last night’s (Tuesday) championship game against VP One (Dutzow) at the Lakeview Baseball and Softball Complex in Washington.

Haeffner Wealth Advisors (Hermann) came one win shy of reaching the tournament title game falling 9-3 to VP One.

Prior to the semifinals, HWA posted a 12-2 opening-round victory over Nieburg-Vitt-Miller Funeral Home before claiming a 16-8 win over Wealth Enhancement Group (Dutzow) in the quarterfinals.

Two Hermann teams competing in the Bantam 1 Division Tournament saw their seasons end in quarterfinal action last week.

STL Flatworks fell 18-3 to Midwest Veterinarian Services (Dutzow) last Thursday night before posting a 3-1 victory in first-round action against Whitetails Unlimited (Dutzow).

MVS faced Show-Me Hauling (Union) Monday night with a spot in last night’s tournament title game on the line.

Grotewiel Construction also saw their season end in quarterfinal action last Wednesday dropping a 5-4 decision to Lang-A-Tang Cafe & Catering (New Haven).

Their journey to the quarterfinals started with a round-one win over Peoples Savings Bank (New Haven) 8-7 and a round-two victory over Ballmann Earthworks 8-6.

Lang-A-Tang ended up losing in the semifinals to United Bank of Union.

Bantam 2 Division Tournament action saw the Hermann team sponsored by Shelter Insurance agent John Brenner reached the quarterfinals before falling 10-8 to Bank of Washington.

Prior to their quarterfinal loss, they posted a 15-8 win over Shingle Tech (Union).

Bank of Washington went for a tournament title Monday night against Blumenhoff Winery.

Petite 1 Division Tournament action saw Hermann Veterinary Clinic fall 20-0 to Guffey’s Pizza (Dutzow) in first-round action at McLaughlin Field in Washington last Tuesday night.

Guffey’s took on Dobsch Chiropractic in semifinal action Monday  night at Washington looking to secure their spot in last night’s (Tuesday) tournament title game.
