Region 5 executive officers in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) program including President Taylor Lauer and Vice President Josie Neill of Hermann High School planned and on Oct. 6 hosted its annual fall conference at Rolla High School with a creative Minecraft theme “Building Your Future…One Block at a Time.”
Hermann High School FCCLA members joined 14 chapters and over 140 members for a day of leadership, learning, and service.
The student-led conference featured an inspiring traffic safety keynote presentation by MODOT’s East Region law enforcement liaison, Art Amato, empowering members to make smart and safe choices behind the wheel. Attendees also participated in breakout sessions covering a wide range of topics, including:
• Alumni and Associate Involvement with Cheryl Vernon, alumni guest;
• Running for Office with State Officer Faith Bohrer and Region President Taylor Lauer;
• Skill Event Demonstrations led by Region Vice President Josie Neill and Hermann Chapter Officer DeLaney Williams;
• Competitive Event Rubrics with Region Secretary Elle Randolph;
• National Programs Project Overview with Region Historian Nakhia Kirkman; and.
• STAR Event Demonstrations led by Region Parliamentarian Alison Hancock.
In addition to workshops, members gave back through a service project benefiting a St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Together, attendees raised $184.69 in donations, collected XL twin sheet sets, and wrote inspirational messages for young patients.
A highlight of the event included the Bucket Decoration Challenge, where Waynesville FCCLA earned recognition for their creativity and spirit. Waynesville also raised the most funds during the Miracle Minute, demonstrating outstanding generosity and teamwork. According to a release from the Hermann FCCLA chapter, the Region 5 conference showcased the leadership, compassion, and creativity that define FCCLA members as they continue to build bright futures with warm courage and high hope.
